This report forecasts US pet service sales in nominal US dollars for 2023-2028. To illustrate historical trends, total sales and the various segments are provided in annual series from 2019 to 2022. Total demand is segmented by category in terms of: grooming; pet insurance; boarding/daycare; training; pet sitting/walking; and other services such as end-of-life and waste management.
This report focuses on non-medical pet services for dogs and cats in the US, including grooming, boarding (overnight) and daycare, training, and pet sitting/walking, with niche and emerging areas such as end-of-life services and waste retrieval services also discussed. Report coverage also includes pet insurance as a financial service, and a key category for market growth.
Medical and non-medical services provided through the veterinary sector are outside the scope of this report, though are discussed in context. Also outside this report are non-medical services for pets/animals other than dogs or cats; for example, horse grooming is excluded. The term “pets” in this report, therefore, generally refers to dogs and cats only.
Freedonia quantifies trends in various measures of growth and volatility. Growth calculated as a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) employs, by definition, only the first and last datapoints over a period. The CAGR is used to describe forecast growth, defined as the expected trend beginning in the base year and ending in the forecast year. Readers are encouraged to consider historical volatility when assessing particular annual values along the forecast trend, including in the forecast year.
