Green Roofing: United States

Green Roofing: United States

This report forecasts to 2028 US green (vegetative) roofing demand in nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand is segmented by system type in terms of: extensive, semi-intensive, and intensive. Total demand is also segmented by market as follows: new construction and retrofit. Finally, demand is also segmented by component as follows: geotextile and drainage layer, vegetation, waterproof membrane, growing media, insulation, and other components such as built-in irrigation components, membrane protection boards, and edging that is not part of the drainage layer.

To illustrate historical trends, total demand is provided in annual series from 2013 to 2023; the various segments are reported at five-year intervals for 2013, 2018, and 2023.

Excluded from the scope of this report are rooftop container gardens, which do not offer the same water capturing or insulation benefits as green roofs. Living walls and vegetative building façades are also excluded, as are decorative rooftop elements (e.g., pavers, edging) and sprinkler systems.

Data in this report does not include installation costs or the value of existing roof components (e.g., membrane, insulation) that are not replaced as part of a newly installed vegetative roofing system. In the case of roofs that are partially covered by vegetative roofing, only the area of green coverage is included in the scope of this report.

Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided with quantified trends. Other various topics, including profiles of pertinent leading companies, are covered in this report. A full outline of report items by page is available in the Table of Contents.
