Global Thermoplastic Elastomers
This report forecasts to 2024 global demand for thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) by product, market, and major world region in metric tons. Product segments include: styrenic block copolymers (SBCs); thermoplastic polyolefins (TPOs); polyolefin elastomers (POEs); thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs); and other products such as thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs), copolyester elastomers (COPEs), and specialty TPEs.
Reported markets encompass: motor vehicles; consumer goods; asphalt and roofing; adhesives, sealants, and coatings; and other markets such as industrial, medical, and packaging.
Major world regions include North America, Western Europe, Asia/Pacific, and all other regions.
To illustrate historical trends, world, product, market, and regional demand (including product and market segments) are provided for 2009, 2014, and 2019.
SBCs that do not exhibit elastomeric properties (i.e., high styrene products that contain roughly 60% or more styrene) are excluded from the scope of this study. While TPOs and TPVs are ""polyolefin elastomers"" in a technical sense, they are defined separately for the purposes of this study. Furthermore, vulcanized olefin elastomers such as EPDM and ethylene-propylene rubber are not TPEs and are thus excluded. Compounds with vulcanized elastomers are considered to be TPVs rather than TPOs. Various sources and manufacturers differ on the degree of vulcanization required to define an olefinic TPE as a TPV, so estimates of current global demand can vary. Other various topics, including profiles of pertinent leading companies, are covered in this report. A full outline of report items by page is available in the Table of Contents.
