This report forecasts to 2027 US cups and lids demand and production in nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand is segmented by material in terms of: plastic, paper, molded fiber, and metal. Total demand is also segmented by market as follows: foodservice; food and beverage; and retail and other markets, such as medical and dental, pet products, and nonfood packaging.
To illustrate historical trends, total demand is provided in annual series from 2012 to 2022; production and the various segments are reported at five-year intervals for 2012, 2017, and 2022.
This report examines the US market for disposable (single-use) cups and lids. For the purposes of this report, "disposable" refers to items that are intended to be disposed of after a single use. Items with increased durability that allow multiple uses for various applications, such as aluminum beverage cups, are included.
Excluded from the scope of this report are reusable drinking cups and glasses and disposable packaging tubs containing more than one serving of product (generally 12 or more ounces). Additionally, cup-like items that serve a primary function other than that of containing a product are excluded. For example, closures on detergent bottles with volumetric markings that can double as detergent cups are not counted in this report.
