Countertops: United States

This report forecasts to 2027 US countertop demand in square meters and countertop demand and production in nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand in square meters is segmented by material in terms of: engineered stone; laminate; natural stone; solid surface/cast polymers; porcelain slab/sintered stone; and small volume materials such as tile, stainless steel, and wood. Total demand in square meters is also segmented by market as follows: new residential, residential remodel, new nonresidential, and nonresidential remodel.

To illustrate historical trends, total demand in square meters is provided in annual series from 2012 to 2022; total demand and production by value, and the various demand segments in square meters are reported at five-year intervals for 2012, 2017, and 2022.

In this report, countertops are defined as countertop surfaces, as well as edging and backsplash, but not countertop materials used as wall coverings. Countertops used in applications other than residential and nonresidential buildings – such as in recreational vehicles, ships, and boats – are excluded. Surfaces installed on tables, rolling utility carts, and other furniture are also excluded from this report.

Integrated sinks were included in demand if they featured functional counter space on either side of the sink (only the counter space itself was included in the countertop estimate – the sink itself was excluded). If the integrated sink only featured a small edge or lip, the entire integrated sink was excluded.

Also excluded from the scope of this report are recycled materials, including completely recycled materials, partially recycled materials, or reclaimed materials, such as tiles salvaged from other countertop installations (since no new tiles must be produced). Also excluded are materials used as wall coverings.

Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided with quantified trends. Other various topics, including profiles of pertinent leading companies, are covered in this report. A full outline of report items by page is available in the Table of Contents.
