Cannabis Production: Canada

Cannabis Production: Canada

This report forecasts to 2028 cannabis production volume (in dry pounds) and value (in US dollars and Canadian dollars) at the grower level. Total production by volume and US dollars is segmented by type in terms of: marijuana and hemp.

Forecasts are provided for all type segments for 2019, 2023, and 2028. Total production by volume and value as well as by type segment is also provided for 2018.

Total production by volume for 2018 is also segmented by province: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Québec, Ontario, New Brunswick, British Columbia, and other provinces and territories.

Reported cannabis production numbers in this report refer to: all marijuana and hemp – i.e., cannabis containing 0.3% or less tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – produced by known and/or licensed (annual and temporary) commercial cultivators, whether or not that marijuana ends up on the black market (e.g., sold outside of regulated channels); and marijuana grown legally by individuals at home.

While a significant portion of marijuana produced by these growers is eventually sold through illicit channels, these volumes are included to avoid significant underreporting in the marijuana growing supplies market.

Production volumes and values in this report cover only the dry weight of usable cannabis plant and exclude the value of downstream processing. Also excluded from the scope of this report are: marijuana and hemp grown by unknown and unrecorded operations, marijuana grown illegally by individuals at home, and cannabis illegally distributed outside of regulated channels and sold on the black market.

Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided with quantified trends. Other various topics are covered in this report. A full outline of report items by page is available in the Table of Contents.
