Pump & Compressor Manufacturing

Pump & Compressor Manufacturing

Brief Excerpt from Industry Overview Chapter:

Companies in this industry manufacture pumps, pumping equipment, and air and gas compressors. Major companies include Enovis, Flowserve, IDEX, ITT, and Xylem (all based in the US), as well as Atlas Copco (Sweden), Ebara (Japan), Grundfos (Denmark), Huayi Compressor (China), Ingersoll Rand (Ireland), KSB (Germany), and Weir Group (Scotland).

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

Demand depends primarily on the level of manufacturing and construction activity. Construction and maintenance in the chemical, petroleum, utilities, and water management industries is especially important. Large companies have economies of scale in purchasing and production. Smaller producers compete by focusing on specialized product offerings and superior customer service. The US industry is concentrated: the top 50 companies account for about 75% of industry revenue.

PRODUCTS, OPERATIONS & TECHNOLOGY

Major products include industrial pumps which account for about 30% of the total industry revenue, followed by air and gas compressors at about 20%. Other products include domestic water systems (about 10%), oil-well and oil-field pumps (about 10%), and parts and attachments for air and gas compressors (about 30%). Pump and pump equipment categories include centrifugal pumps, oil field pumps, general-purpose industrial pumps, and sump pumps. Broad compressor product categories include general-purpose air compressors, paint sprayers, manual pump sprayers, and pressure washers. Measuring and dispensing pumps are primarily used for pumping gasoline, oil, and other lubricants.
