Research Summary
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) is a lightweight, precast, foam concrete building material that is made from natural raw materials such as sand, lime, water, cement, and a small amount of aluminum powder. It is characterized by its many air pores that provide excellent insulation properties and low density. AAC is produced by mixing the raw materials with water and a suitable amount of aluminum powder, which reacts with calcium hydroxide and water to generate hydrogen gas. This gas then expands the mixture, forming a slurry. The slurry is then poured into molds with pre-installed steel reinforcement bars, and allowed to cure for several hours at a high pressure and temperature in an autoclave chamber, resulting in the formation of a solid, uniform and homogenous block with a smooth surface texture. AAC blocks are available in different sizes and strengths. They are highly sustainable building materials and are used for walls, floors, and roofs in residential and commercial construction projects. They have excellent thermal insulation, fire resistance, sound insulation, and seismic resistance properties. AAC blocks are also eco-friendly as they are made from natural materials and require low energy input for production, which makes them an ideal alternative to conventional building materials.
