Global Animal Feed Phytase Market - 2023-2030

Global Animal Feed Phytase Market - 2023-2030

Market Overview

Animal Feed Phytase Market were valued at USD YY million in 2022. It is forecasted to reach USD YY million by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 5.9% during the forecast period (2023-2030)

Phytase is an enzyme that helps in increasing phosphorus in the diets of livestock and also aids in improving digestion and animal health. It hydrolyzes the phospho-monoester bonds of phytate, which is the salt of phytic acid and is the primary form of phosphorus found in plant tissues that consist of 40-90% of P as phytate P. Phytase is the most widely used feed enzyme that provides physiological, nutritional and environmental benefits in the feed industry. The current animal feed phytase production mainly depends on microbial phytase production by biotechnology. Increased livestock production, such as poultry, swine, and fish, has increased the demand for animal feed enzymes like phytase feed enzymes.

Market DynamicsGrowing livestock and poultry farming and increasing demand for meat, eggs and dairy products is driving the market

All religions widely accept poultry meat without any restrictions. According to Statista, the chicken population is increased rapidly since 1990. In 2020, there were some 33 billion chickens worldwide, up from 14.3 billion chickens in 2000. India ranked 3rd in egg production, producing 83 billion eggs per year and number 1 in milk production, accounting for 185 M metric tons per year. Tamil Nadu is India's leading state in a poultry population, accounting for 120.8 million in 2019. In 2019, Andhra Pradesh ranked second, followed by Telangana. The poultry population in the country increased to 851.8 million, recording a growth of 16.8 percent between 2012 and 2019. The number of chickens worldwide has more than doubled since 1990. In 2020, there were some 33 billion chickens worldwide, up from 14.3 billion chickens in 2000. According to Statista, in July 2022, the global cattle population amounted to about one billion head 2022, up from approximately 996 million in 2021. India's cattle inventory amounted to over 305 million in 2021. This increase in livestock and poultry population increases the demand for animal feed phytase.

Moreover, plant proteins are commonly used in the poultry diet, and their phytate P is unavailable for digestion. Phytate P reduces the bioavailability of certain nutrients by chelating them into the molecule. Phytic acid is a strong anti-nutritional factor, and the lower the myo-inositol phosphates form complex with divalent metals. Therefore, the inclusion of phytase in the mono-gastric diet is increased nutrient bioavailability and reduces the excessive accumulation of P in the manure that causes environmental issues, including water pollution, algal blooms, fish death, changing fauna and flora. Phytase enzymes are essential in biotechnological applications in feed. It can minimize phytate concentration and increase phosphorus efficiency in livestock feed. Animals, like poultry, pigs, and fish, have low amounts of gastrointestinal phytases, which prevents them from using the phytate, phosphorus found in livestock feed. They require inorganic phosphate supplementation to satisfy their growth and dietary requirements, which raises phosphorus pollution levels. Phytase enzyme is significant in livestock feed because it improves the digestive process of phosphorus.

Market Segmentation: Poultry accounted for the highest share in global animal feed phytase market

The poultry segment held the largest market share in the animal feed phytase market due to the increased demand for poultry for eggs and meat. The rising need for feed ingredients and various health benefits from animal feed enzymes, such as improving energy levels and enhancing metabolism, further expand the growth of the animal feed phytase market. In addition, the prevalence of various food-borne diseases among animals is increasing the demand for animal feed enzyme products. The easy availability and economic rate of animal feed enzymes increase the profitability, further giving traction to the market. Major key players launched new products for poultry. For instance, DSM launched RONOZYME HiStarch contains a unique single alpha-amylase, unlocking the energy in grain-based poultry and piglet feeds by improving starch digestion and reducing feed costs. RONOZYME HiStarch combines the feed enzymes RONOZYME HiPhos (phytase) and RONOZYME WX (xylanase). Consumption of the phytase increase amounts of intact protein in the small intestine, to which the animal reacts by increasing hydrochloric acid (HCl) and pepsin production. These factors help to boost segment growth in the forecast period.

Geographical Penetration: Asia Pacific is the dominating region during the forecast period.

Asia -Pacific region held the largest market share in the forecast period due to the region's increased poultry and livestock population. Some developing countries like China and Japan had the largest market share due to the high expansion in the dairy industry. An increase in consumer awareness about livestock diseases further boosts market growth. India is the leading country with the highest livestock population. According to Statista, in August 2022, Uttar Pradesh had the highest livestock population across India, at about 67.8 million in 2019. Rajasthan ranked second that year, followed by Madhya Pradesh. The livestock population across the country amounted to nearly 535.8 million, with cattle buffaloes and goats making up the largest share. An increase in the consumer's awareness about livestock health drives the market growth.

Competitive Landscape

There are several established participants in the industry and local manufacturers; hence, the market is fragmented. Some major market players are AB Enzymes, Alltech, BASF SE, Novozymes, Novus International, Adisseo, Dupont, DSM, Rossari Biotech Limited, Guangdong VTR Bio-Tech Co., Ltd., and ADM Animal Nutrition, among others. Some major key players expand their business due to high consumer demand. For instance, in January 2022, BASF expanded its production capacity for feed enzymes in Germany. Through expanding the existing plant, BASF has significantly increased the annual number of feasible fermentation runs. The larger production capacity enables BASF to meet the growing global demand from customers for a reliable, high-quality supply of the BASF feed enzymes Natuphos E (phytase), Natugrain TS (xylanase and glucanase) and the recently launched Natupulse TS (mannanase). The expanded new plant has already started production and larger quantities of BASF feed enzymes.

Some of the major key players launched new products to increase their sales. For instance, in March 2019, BASF launched a new phytase Natuphos E with a novel hybrid bacterial, 6-phytase, to unlock vital nutrients for the feed industry in Indonesia. The new product is more suitable for poultry due to its nutrients such as phosphorous, calcium, amino acids and energy. It promotes the healthy growth of animals and reduces phosphorus emissions from livestock. Also, in August 2020, BASF introduced a new phytase Natuphos E to unlock vital nutrients for the feed industry in Japan. Natuphos E, poultry and swine can better utilize nutrients such as phosphorous, calcium, and amino acids for energy. Also, in December 2021, BASF launched Natupulse TS, an innovative feed enzyme to unlock valuable nutrients. Natupulse TS is available in powder and liquid form.

COVID-19 ImpactPositive impact on the global animal feed phytase market

The entire supply chain of the feed was disrupted due to a limited supply of products, and the feed demand has been relatively stable. The movement restrictions and illnesses result in labor shortages and a reduced supply of raw materials. The disruption in supply routes has further led to delays in feed supply. However, the demand for animal feed phytase in the livestock industry has likely increased in the first and second quarters of 2020 as many farmers resorted to panic buying feed additives in anticipation of potential shortages. It has led to an increase in demand for animal feed phytase during the pandemic.

The global animal feed phytase market report would provide an access to approximately 74 market data tables, 62 figures and 170 pages
