Lingerie Market Research Reports & Industry Analysis

Lingerie is a type of undergarment that typically is constructed of one or more flexible fabrics. These fabrics include, but are not limited to nylon, polyester, satin, lace, sheer fabrics, Lycra, and silk. These materials are not usually incorporated into more practical and basic undergarments. These products are typically comprised of cotton. Promoted by the fashion market, the lingerie market has grown over the years and demand for these products has increased. Lingerie designers are increasingly emphasizing creating lingerie with lace, embroidery, luxurious materials, and brighter hues.

The bra is the most retailed lingerie item. Due to changes in technology and the variety of fabrics now available to designers, innovative bras such as laser-cut seamless bras and molded t-shirt bras are being created. Full-busted bras are also in great demand. The selection of sizes for women to choose from is more varied than in the past. The idea in choosing bras has shifted from finding one in an average size, to locating one with a precise size.

Lingerie is purchased from manufacturers and wholesalers and then sold to the general public. As lingerie has become an asset in apparel sales, many retailers in catalogs, stores, and e-companies are offering increased selection. Merchants realize that lingerie has higher profit margins than regular apparel, and as such are investing more time and money in the market. New lines of lingerie are being showcased, and older lingerie items are being revamped. Competition within the lingerie industry is rising. As such manufacturers and retailers are shifting their focus to specific niche lingerie items.
