A positive displacement (PD) pump works on the repeated back-and-forth motion (strokes) of a diaphragm, piston or plunger. These cyclical cycles are known as reciprocation. In a cylinder pump, the first stroke of the cylinder generates a high pressure, which causes the diaphragm to come to rest and opens an outlet valve. The next stroke of the cylinder produces a low pressure, which causes the diaphragm to come to rest again and closes the valve. Discharge valves are needed for positive displacement pumps to prevent solids and other materials from being discharged into the discharge pipe. Because of their shape, these units can also displace solids that have invaded the pump housing. The most commonly used discharge valves are ball and sleeve units. Other discharge valve designs, sometimes referred to as "drip systems", work well with lower pressure and high flow rates.
Market Dynamics
Rapid growth of the chemical industry in both developed and emerging economies is expected to boost the global positive displacement pumps market growth over the forecast period. Over the years, the chemicals industry has gained significant traction in both developed and emerging economies, owing to the presence of key companies. According to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the Indian chemicals industry is expected to be valued at US$ 304 billion by 2025, increasing from US$ 178 billion in 2019. Positive displacement pumps are extensively used in the chemicals industry for pumping high viscosity fluids including paints, oils, and resins where accurate dosing is required.
Moreover, increasing applications in the pharmaceutical industry are expected to accelerate growth of the global positive displacement pumps market.
