PTA Balloon Catheter Market by Material Type (Polyurethane, Nylon, and Others), by Application (Coronary Artery Disease and Peripheral Vascular Disease), by End User (Hospitals or Clinics, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, and Others), and by Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa) - Size, Share, Trends, and Forecast, 2022 - 2028
A catheter is a tubular, flexible instrument, passed through body channels for withdrawals of fluid (or introduction of fluids) from body cavity. PTA balloon catheter is an innovative medical device, which is inserted in the femoral artery in the leg or sometimes into the radial artery in the arm for the treatment of constricted blood vessels. The PTA means “percutaneous transluminal angioplasty” (percutaneous means through the skin). As the balloon inflates, the cage causes the balloon to form a series of segmented pillows and grooves along the entire lesion. The pillows apply force to create small dissections that are necessary for effective dilatation. The grooves relieve the stress and stop dissections from propagating. The PTA balloon catheters is used in for the treatment of peripheral vascular lesions. The standard PTA balloon catheter segment has represented the largest share of the total PTA balloon catheter market. However, Boston ScientificÂs exit from the standard PTA balloon catheter space in 2014 reduced the size of the market in that year. The value of the high-pressure PTA balloon catheter market increased sharply in 2014 as Boston Scientific shifted resources from the standard to high-pressure PTA balloon catheter markets.
Market Dynamics
Increasing prevalence of urological and cardiovascular diseases, geographical expansion of PTA balloons catheter manufacturers in North America, and increasing investment in research and development by manufacturers are some of the major factors that are expected to drive the market growth. Furthermore, increasing production of PTA balloon catheter is expected to driving growth of global PTA balloon catheter market. For instance, in April 2015, BrosMed announced CE mark and launched its Minerva percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) dilation catheter for the treatment of patients with peripheral arterial disease.
Moreover, in April 2021, the Metronic, Inc IN.PACT Admiral Paclitaxel-coated Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) Balloon Catheter received the U.S. FDA approval. The Medtronic IN.PACT Admiral Paclitaxel-coated Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) Balloon Catheter (Medtronic DCB) uses a drug-coated balloon to re-open blocked or narrowed arteries in the thigh and knee due to peripheral artery disease (PAD).
