A human microchip implant is an identifying integrated circuit RFID device covered in silicate glass and injected under the skin, usually around the size of a rice grain. When activated, it sends a signal that can be read by a scanner, or via a smartphone app. The chip also stores people’s identity, medical history and medications. In the US, workers are offered microchips on a voluntary basis. But, as technology evolves and chips become more sophisticated — and eventually combine with the brain to form a sort of brain-computer interface, as Neuralink is working on — they could be forced upon people against their will. “Without clear labor laws that protect against workplace coercion to consent, employees might feel pressured to say yes,” says Ifeoma Ajunwa, a professor of law at Cornell University.
Market Dynamics:
Various advantages of human microchipping such asfighting fraud and theft, boosting security, making logging on to websites easier and more rapid are likely to drive growth of the global human microchipping market during the forecast period.
However, Risk of cyber-attacks to spoof people or spy on their activities is a major factor expected to hamper growth of the global human microchipping market over the forecast period.
