A electrotherapy system is the medical treatment in which electric currents are passed through the tissues to stimulate muscle function of the patient. The electrotherapy is primarily used for muscle rehabilitation and re-education, electrical muscle stimulation, maintaining and increasing range of motion, relaxation of muscle spasms, prevention and retardation of disuse atrophy, increase of local blood circulation, acute post-traumatic and post-surgical pain, post-surgical stimulation of muscles to prevent venous thrombosis, and wound healing. Typically, electrotherapy units consist of a battery-operated device connected via wires to skin-contact adhesive electrode pads. The electrode pads will attach to the skin since they are adhesive.
A modest electric current is transmitted to the skin through the electrode once the electrodes are attached and the device is turned on. The cables are no longer necessary with a number of contemporary electrotherapy devices, which combine electrodes and battery power into a single unit that can be discretely worn on the back, arm, leg, or elsewhere while working or going about daily activities. The degree of stimulation can be changed using a handheld controller.
There are six main types of electrotherapy system, which are mentioned here as follows: Interferential Therapy, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Pulsed Shortwave Therapy, Laser Therapy, Combination Therapy and Thearpeutic Ultrasound. The electric currents used in therapy are conventionally divided into three basic groups: galvanic current, pulse direct current and alternating current. The TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) is a group of prevalent currents substituting the standard applications of diadynamic currents. Their major utilization is alleviation of pain, inhibition of itching, and so on. The mechanism of their effect is most often explained by the so-called gate theory of pain. Besides treating pain, these currents can also be effectively utilized in electro-gymnastics (stimulation of denervated muscles).
Market Dynamics
Sports injury involves damage to part of the body due to sports, exercise, or atlhletic activities. A sports injury can be acute (sudden) or chronic which is developes over the phase of time. Thus electrotherapy is performed on atheletes to treat pain due to sports injuries. Hence, the rise in prevelance of the sports injuries is anticipated to drive the demand for electrotherapy over the forecast period. Thus, owing to this factor, the market can driven over the forecast period. For instance, according to the National Safety Council (NSC), in 2021, exercise equipment-related injuries are approximately 409,000 the most in any category of sports and recreation.
