U.S. Disinfecting Cap Market, by Application (Central Venous Line, Peripheral IV Catheters and Others), and by End User (Hospital and Clinics, Ambulatory/Outpatient Surgical Centers, and Others) - Size, Share, Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis, 2022 - 2028
Peripheral IV Catheters (PIVC) are commonly used intravenous devices in hospital settings. PIVC are inserted in small peripheral veins for administration of medications, fluids and/or blood products, and also for blood sampling. Peripheral IV catheter insertion is one of the most common invasive procedures in hospital settings. PIVC are intravenous devices that are used more frequently which can increase risk of infection. As a result, special infection control measures have been applied for such IV devices. In order to avoid contamination risk, most hospitals use PIV bundles, which include disinfecting caps and tips. Central venous line procedures are generally used for hemodynamic monitoring, administration of drugs likely to induce phlebitis, hemodialysis, lack of peripheral venous access, and others. Hence, disinfecting caps are widely used for prevention of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI).
