Continuous Peripheral Nerve Block Catheter Market, by Product Type (Stimulating Catheter (Open Tip Catheter Stimulating Catheter, Closed Tip Catheter Stimulating Catheter), Non-Stimulating Catheter, (Open Tip Catheter Non-Stimulating Catheter, Closed Tip Catheter Non-Stimulating Catheter), (Over-The-Needle Catheter)) by Insertion Technique (Ultrasound, Nerve Stimulation), by Indication (Trauma Cases, Upper Extremity Surgeries, Lower Extremity Surgeries, Pain Management, Other), by End User, (Hospitals, Ambulatory Surgical Centers), and by Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa)- Size, Share, Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis, 2022 - 2030
Peripheral nerve block catheter is a secure and efficient method of minimizing discomfort following surgery. After surgery, a small tube called a wearable catheter is placed beneath the skin to distribute anesthetic medication to the area around nerves. Depending on the type of surgery and the medication prescribed by an anesthesiologist, the medication usually lasts between two and four days.
The catheter is connected via tubing to a reservoir of non-opioid pain relievers and an infusion pump. Adhesive and tape are used to secure the catheter in place. A small carrying case is provided to transport the infusion pump before leaving the hospital. The infusion pump automatically administers medication. Unless otherwise instructed by medical care team, no need to take any action to control the dosage of medication patient are getting.
Market Dynamics
Market players are involved in launching new products, which is expected to drive the growth of global continuous peripheral nerve block catheter market growth. For instance, in December 2020, Smiths Medical, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of medical products, launched EchoGlo peripheral nerve block needle. EchoGlo provides echogenic brightness over a diverse angle, which can improve visibility and accuracy while administering medication. By using EchoGlo a professional can securely provide local anesthesia, which may reduce post-operative opioid dependence.
Increasing number of patients for hip and knee surgeries is expected to drive growth of the global continuous peripheral nerve block catheter market in the forecast period. For instance, according to 2021 annual report of American Joint Replacement Registry data published in Elsevier on January 29, 2022, about 2.4 million hip and knee surgeries was registered from more than 1150 foundations, addressing a 18.3% increment when compared with 2020. After hip or knee surgery nerve block catheters are used by patients for managing pain.
