Cardiology electrodes are conductive pads that are attached to the body to receive electrical signals from the heart. These electrodes pads are sticker-like and are usually placed on limbs and chest to monitor heart activity. Charged ions such as Na+, Ca2+, K+, and others are responsible for generating an electrical impulse in the heart that can be measured by an electrode. ECG machine detects, analyzes, amplifies, and presents the signals generated by two or more electrodes into a readable format. The graphical representation of electrical signals generated by several electrodes is known as electrocardiogram (ECG) lead and the procedure of generating an electrocardiogram is known as electrocardiography. ECG led can be presented in the form of a diagram to help understand if the person is suffering from any cardiac event such as arrhythmia, ischemia, heart chamber enlargement, heart attack, and others. One of the most commonly used electrocardiograph for diagnosis of such cardiac events is the 12-lead ECG which comprises of 10 electrodes and provides sensitivity and feasibility. Rapid research in the field of cardiology has led to several opportunities for development of newer technologies for improvement of cardiology electrodes for diagnosis of cardiovascular conditions.
Market Dynamics
Market players are focusing on launch of products, which is expected to strengthen their position in the global cardiology electrodes market. For instance, in September 2019, Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co., Ltd. launched its new product called BeneHeart C Series which is an automated external defibrillator (AED). It consists of electrode pads which detects the electrical activity of the heart and helps in diagnosis of arrhythmia. In case of any life-threatening cardiac event, these electrode signals induce the defibrillator to provide external electric current to the heart so that the defibrillator can restore normal heart beat.
Market players are involved in expanding their presence globally, by entering into acquisition with other companies in order to enhance distribution, this is expected to drive the growth of the global cardiology electrodes market. For instance, in May 2018, a Japanese industrial mold manufacturing company acquired assets of Heart Sync, Inc., a U.S. based medical devices manufacturer which specializes in defibrillation electrodes.
