Aortic stenosis is a narrowing of the aortic valve opening that divides the left ventricle from the aorta. It obstructs the blood flow from the heart into the main artery (aorta) and reduces the amount of blood pumped out to the body with each contraction of the heart's main pumping chamber. Aortic stenosis progression can occur slowly over many years and asymptomatic in early stages, with symptoms developing as it becomes more severe. As the valve opening narrows further, the heart must work harder to pump enough blood through the restricted opening, putting extra strain on the heart. This can eventually weaken and damage the heart muscle if not treated.
Market Dynamics
The rising prevalence of risk factors such as high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes is significantly contributing to the growth of the global aortic stenosis market. Some of the common causes of aortic stenosis include aging, deposits of calcium on the aortic valve which makes it stiff, rheumatic fever and congenital malformations of the aortic valve. Aging population, technological advancements, and increasing awareness are anticipated to drive growth of the global aortic stenosis market over the forecast period. Moreover, rising healthcare expenditure is also expected to boost the growth of the global aortic stenosis market over the forecast period. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) expansion, emerging therapies and novel drug development, personalized medicine, and telemedicine and remote monitoring are expected to create growth opportunities for the global aortic stenosis market during the forecast period.
However, high cost of treatment, limited reimbursement policies, availability and awareness barriers, and clinical and procedural complications are expected to hamper growth of the aortic stenosis market over the forecast period.
