Alumina Trihydrate Market, By End-use Industry (Plastic Industry, Paper Industry, Paints & Coatings Industry, Adhesives Industry, Chemicals Industry, Pharmaceuticals Industry, Others), By Regions (North America, Latin America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific, excluding Japan, Japan) - Size, Share, Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis, 2022 - 2028
Alumina Trihydrate, also known as Alumina Hydrate/Hydrate Alumina, ATH (Aluminium Tri Hydroxide), Aluminum Hydroxide and Aluminium Hydrate is an odorless white powder. Although, it exhibits very low solubility in water, alumina trihydrate is amphoteric in nature, which means that it will dissolve in acid or a strong alkali. Alumina Trihydrate is majorly produced through the Bayer process where the bauxite (Aluminium Ore) is dissolved in sodium hydroxide at high temperatures. After the reaction, alumina trihydrate is removed/separated from the remaining solids. These remaining solids are highly toxic in nature and presents environmental issues.
Market Dynamics
Among end-use applications, use of Alumina Trihydrate in pharmaceutical industries is expected to gain traction during the forecast period. Alumina trihydrate is used in the formulation of antacid medicine which can be ingested in order to buffer the pH within the stomach. Therefore, significant growth in the pharmaceutical industry is expected to help drive the Alumina Trihydrate market growth. For instance, According to International Trade Association, China is the second largest pharmaceutical market worldwide and the pharmaceutical market of China was valued at US$ 108 billion in 2015, and is expected to reach US$ 167 billion by 2020, witnessing a CAGR of 9.1%. Moreover, China's total public and private healthcare expenditure was valued at US$ 640 billion in 2015, and expected to reach US$ 1.1 trillion by 2020.
Among regions, Asia Pacific is expected to hold dominant position in the market during the forecast period, owing to the increasing use of Alumina Trihydrate as a flame retardant from various end-use industries such as construction, automotive, among others. Significant growth in the automotive industry in emerging economies of the region such as China and India is expected to fuel demand for alumina trihydrate in the region. For instance, according to the U.S. International Trade Organization (ITA) 2017, China was the world’s largest vehicle market, reporting sales of over 28 million units in 2016, which is expected to reach 35 million units by 2025.
