Objective lenses are optical components primarily used to magnify details of objects. They are a critical part of optical instruments such as microscopes, telescopes, cameras, and projectors. Positioned at the forefront of an optical system, objective lenses directly face the object being observed or imaged, collecting light from the object and forming an initial magnified image.
Objective lenses are widely applied in fields such as biology, materials science, industrial inspection, and medicine. In industry, they are used in precision inspection equipment, such as optical inspection systems for semiconductors and automated vision systems. In biology and medicine, microscopes equipped with appropriate objective lenses are essential for observing cells, tissues, and microorganisms, making them indispensable for scientific research and medical diagnostics.
The production of objective lenses is complex and requires a high level of technical expertise. According to CRI, the world's leading manufacturers are mainly based in Japan, Germany, and the United States, with renowned companies including Nikon, Zeiss, and Leica.
CRI’s analysis indicates that Vietnam’s objective lens market has been steadily growing alongside the country’s economic development. However, as Vietnam's local optical industry is still in its early stages, it lacks advanced optical materials and precision processing technologies. As a result, Vietnam's objective lens market heavily relies on imported products. The rapid development of Vietnam's electronics manufacturing, medical equipment, and automated inspection industries in recent years has further driven the expansion of the objective lens market. Particularly in electronics manufacturing, Vietnam has become a global assembly and processing hub, and high-quality objective lenses are critical components in camera systems and related technologies for modern electronic products like smartphones.
According to CRI data, Vietnam's total objective lens imports exceeded USD 600 million in 2023. From January to August 2024, imports had already surpassed USD 400 million, reflecting a year-on-year growth of approximately 3%. The overall market size of objective lenses in Vietnam continues to expand.
CRI highlights that, from 2021 to 2024, the main sources of Vietnam's objective lens imports include China, South Korea, and Taiwan. Leading exporters to Vietnam include companies such as Suns Co., Ltd., Sharp Corporation, and MCNEX Co., Ltd.
Major importers of objective lenses in Vietnam are manufacturers and distributors within the electronics industry. According to CRI analysis, these include companies such as Wonderful Saigon Electrics Co., Ltd., Saigon STEC Co., Ltd., and MCNEX VN.
Overall, as Vietnam's economy and manufacturing industries continue to grow, the objective lens market in Vietnam is expanding. Due to limited domestic production capacity, CRI expects Vietnam's reliance on imported objective lenses to persist and its import volumes to continue increasing in the coming years.
