Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging machine that uses strong magnetic fields and radio frequency waves (RF waves) to generate images of tissues in the body. It uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to stimulate the nuclear magnetic resonance of internal hydrogen atoms, thereby obtaining detailed images of tissues. Magnetic resonance imaging has no radiation to the human body, and has the advantages of good soft tissue contrast, multi-parameter imaging, multi-sequence scanning, and multi-directional imaging, providing rich medical imaging information for clinical practice.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has a wide range of specific applications in medicine, mainly including brain examinations, spinal examinations, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular examinations, and abdominal examinations.
The global production of magnetic resonance imaging devices is mainly distributed in the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, China, Japan and South Korea. According to CRI analysis, the United States is one of the leading countries in the production of MRI equipment in the world, with many internationally renowned medical equipment companies. Germany and the Netherlands are also important producers of MRI in the world, among which Siemens Medical and Philips are both leaders in the field of global medical imaging. In China, some MRI manufacturers have also emerged.
North America, Europe and Asia Pacific are the main consumer markets. North America and Europe have stable demand and large market size due to their well-developed healthcare systems and high technology acceptance. Asia Pacific has a rapidly growing market demand due to economic growth and a large population base. According to CRI analysis, in Southeast Asia, with the continued advancement of population growth and urbanization, the demand for magnetic resonance imaging devices is growing rapidly.
Vietnam's medical imaging equipment market is in a rapid development stage, especially the market size of Vietnam's magnetic resonance imaging devices is growing. According to CRI analysis, due to Vietnam's rapid economic growth and population growth, Vietnam's medical needs are constantly increasing, and medical institutions at all levels need to update and add a large number of medical imaging equipment to meet the growing medical needs. However, due to the limited number of local medical equipment manufacturers in Vietnam, most of them can only produce relatively simple medical supplies. Therefore, about 90% of medical imaging equipment in the Vietnamese market relies on imports, and all Vietnamese MRI scan rely on imports.
According to CRI data, Vietnam's total import value of MRI scan in 2023 reached US$32.11 million, a year-on-year increase of approximately 83.31%. In 2024, the market demand was even stronger. From January to October, the cumulative import value of magnetic resonance imaging devices was close to US$41.13 million, an increase of about 103.45% year-on-year, and it is expected to continue to grow in the next few years.
According to CRI analysis, the main import sources of MRI scan in Vietnam include Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, the United States, China, Hong Kong, China and Germany. China is the main import source of MRI scan in Vietnam. The main import source of MRI scan in Vietnam from 2021 to 2024 are China, Germany and Singapore. The main companies exporting MRI devices to Vietnam include GE HEALTHCARE PTE LTD, SIEMENS HEALTHCARE GMBH, PHILIPS MEDICAL SYSTEMS NL B V and other companies. The main importers of MRI devices in Vietnam from 2021 to 2024 include SIEMENS HEALTHCARE LIMITED COMPANY, MEDITRONIC JOINT STOCK COMPANY, FUJIFILM VIETNAM COMPANY LIMITED and other companies.
The Vietnamese MRI market is showing a rapid growth trend, mainly due to the overall growth of the medical equipment market and the high demand for imaging diagnostic equipment. According to CRI's forecast, in the next few years, with the growth of Vietnam's economy, the size of Vietnam's medical market will continue to grow, and Vietnam's imports of MRIs will continue to rise.
CRI recommends that global medical imaging manufacturers and trading companies should investigate the Vietnamese market as soon as possible to prepare for entering the Vietnamese and Southeast Asian markets.
