Middle East & Africa E-Bike Market Outlook, 2027

This has also aided the market growth of electric bicycles or e-bikes. Yet, the region holds to much low share in the global market, holding to below 1% value share in the year 2021.
According to the report, “Middle East & Africa Electric Bicycle (E-Bikes) Market Outlook, 2027” published by Bonafide Research, the market stood at around USD 0.2 Billion market size which is anticipated to grow with more than 10% CAGR for 2022-2027. The people in the Middle East are more inclined towards speed rather than price. This has made it possible for electric bike manufacturers to capture the market with the low fuel consumption, luxurious models. In the coming years, the market is expected to be inclined more towards the throttle electric bike segment. However, the lack of charging stations in some underdeveloped countries in Africa is acting as a major restraint for the e-bike market in the overall Middle East & Africa region. Thus, the region has a slower shift towards electric bicycles compared to the counterpart markets like China.
The market is still in its initial stages in the region but is believed that especially the UAE will have a good share in the global industry in the next few years. In terms of class, the market is led by the Class 1 Pedal Assist segment, which held a share of more than 65% in the year 2021. Much like the global trend, the Class 3 Speed Pedelec segment is expected to be the fastest-growing segment in the coming years. The food delivery market in the UAE has grown tremendously in the past five years and this has increased the demand for commercial two-wheelers. With the increasing fuel prices, the food delivery companies are moving towards electric bicycles to cut the cost. This is expected to cast its impact even on the light commercial cargos, which is to result in the cargo segment growing with significant CAGR during the forecast period.
The African countries are in the need to shift to alternative energy for transportation to overcome the burden of fuel dependency. However, the electricity shortage is already posing a huge hurdle in the way of market growth, yet the Africa electric bicycle market is expected to grow with significant market growth during the forecast period. The shift of Africa towards sustainable automotive is quite visible with the presence of international brands, as well as the low-cost Chinese brands, becoming popular in Kenya. The government of the UAE is already on its way to reduce the carbon emission of road transportation and thus is the most potential market for electric bike manufacturers.
Fenix, a leading electric mobility platform in the Middle East, has launched on-demand shared electric bikes to residents and visitors in select areas of the UAE and Qatar.
