India Ski Gear & Equipment Market Overview, 2028
Skiing in India is primarily practiced in the northern parts of the country, where the Himalayas are located. The Indian Mountaineering Foundation oversees skiing in India. Because of their great height, the Himalayas give an outstanding skiing experience with long descents. Heliskiing is becoming increasingly popular in places like Manali and Gulmarg. Skiing in India, on the other hand, suffers from a lack of infrastructure. There are also security worries in Gulmarg, which is 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the Line of Control, but it has been tranquil since 2002, which has led to a rise in skiing activity in the region. Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir, Solang in Himachal Pradesh, and Auli in Uttarakhand are among the most famous skiing destinations in India. India's skiing season lasts from January to March. Though Europeans had been skiing on Manali's slopes for years, it was Darjeeling's Wangdi Sherpa's little skiing school at Vashisht village that began teaching skiing to local inhabitants. In 1961, the Western Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (WHMI) (now ABVIMAS) began offering skiing and mountaineering courses. In 1978, some local skiing enthusiasts created the Manali Winter Sports Club, which encouraged the enthusiasm for skiing in other teenagers in the region. A group of visionaries and adventure seekers founded the Winter Games Federation of India (WGFI) in 1984. When Solang ski slopes were not developed, competitions were organized at Rohtang pass in the summer months. Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Solang, Rohtang, Kufri, Narkanda, Auli, Munsiyari, Dayara Bugyal, Mundali, Yumthang Valley, Phuni Valley, Patnitop, Sethan are the best places for skiing in India.
According to the research report “India Ski Gear & Equipment Market Overview, 2028” published by Bonafide Research, the market is anticipated to witness a value addition of USD 3.82 Million market size by 2028. Increased government initiatives to encourage participation in outdoor activities such as skiing and other snow sports, as well as an increase in the number of ski resorts, are some of the primary factors driving increased sales of ski gear and equipment throughout the region. Globally, the number of women participating in various activities, notably winter sports such as skiing, has increased in recent years. Vendors are introducing women's ski gear and equipment. Though women ski at a lower rate than men, manufacturers are playing a significant part in encouraging women by supplying specialized equipment designed specifically for them, such as slender ankles and size differences. Furthermore, major providers separate their products by categorizing them into tiers such as intermediate, advanced, and professional. Coalition Snow, for example, is a significant vendor that manufactures women's outdoor recreational equipment such as skis and snowboards. As a result, the increasing adoption of ski gear and equipment by women signals a rise in market growth. Supermarkets and hypermarkets dominated the industry in terms of distribution channels due to discounted products and options available. Decathlons and Columbia Sportswear are some of the specialty stores selling skiing equipment in India. Furthermore, due to increased internet penetration, convenience, and so on, the online segment is predicted to grow at a rapid pace.
The country has three recognized ski resorts. Gulmarg, in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, is the largest. It is one of the most well-known in this part of Asia. The runs range in length from 2'600 to 3'200 meters. The ski area has a two-section gondola, which is noteworthy for transporting skiers to over 4000 meters above sea level at its highest station. A quad chairlift services the hill from the gondola's intermediate station as well. The location has over 1000 meters of vertical drop and beautiful slopes. Gulmarg is a settlement located 2,500 meters above sea level. The base area is located beneath Mount Apharwat, which stands at 4'124 meters. This gives the location a magical atmosphere. The resort is one of the few spots on the planet where snow can fall for two weeks straight. It also has a range of lines: skiers will love the high slopes of Aparwath, which give spectacular views of K2 during excellent weather or runs in Kongdori. The optimum time to visit Gulmarg is from mid-January to mid-February, especially for skiers searching for a mix of stable snowfall and powder snow down in the valley. Auli is India's most exclusive resort, with the best infrastructure available. It is the site of the Indian National Ski Championships as well as an Indian ski festival. It is surrounded by snow-covered Himalayan peaks (the Garhwal Mountains). Auli provides 2'000 meters of slopes, equipped with lifts. The ski area of Manali is located at the northern end of the Kullu Valley. It is best known for heliskiing but also operates a few lifts. It has a multi-season sports offering. Other ski facilities in the nation often have only one lift. The modest Kufri ski area is located in the Himachal Pradesh hills. It is one of the top skiing spots in this state and is easily accessible to everyone in Northern India. As soon as the snow starts falling, this sleepy town transforms into a winter wonderland. In February, Kufri hosts an annual winter sports festival. The Narkanda ski area is 65 kilometers from Shimla. It is one of India's oldest at 3'143 meters above sea level. The skiing season lasts from late December until early March. Narkanda has lovely sceneries and spectacular Himalayan views. Dayara Bugyal is another ski area, located at an elevation of 3'050 meters.
Winter sports in India earned a boost at the start of the year when Aanchal Thakur won the country's first-ever international medal in skiing on January 13. The 21-year-old's bronze medal in the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup at the Palandoken Ski Centre in Erzurum, Turkey, was a watershed moment in the country's winter sports history. Ski governance in India has been on a downward spiral, reaching a low point this year. The Winter Games Federation of India (WGFI), which was founded in 1984, was regarded as the governing body for all winter sports. Over time, independent National Sports Federations for all Olympic winter sports were founded, and the WGFI was reduced to becoming the governing body for only skiing and snowboarding with affiliation to the International Ski Federation (FIS).
