Europe Nonwoven Fabrics Market Outlook, 2027
The nonwoven fabric industry in Europe is one of the most important sectors that serves the emerging but booming technical textile industry in the region. As the demand for nonwoven fabrics continues to grow and an increasing number of developed markets in Europe intensely invest in the manufacturing of functional textiles and nonwoven products, the nonwovens industry in Europe is experiencing steady growth. It is the second largest market for nonwoven fabric after the Asia-Pacific region. Nonwoven fabrics provide specific functions such as resilience, absorbency, liquid repellent, stretch-ability, flame retardant, softness, strength, acoustic insulation, wash-ability, cushioning, thermal insulation, and filtration. Nonwoven materials and products are widely used in a variety of sectors such as medical, healthcare, home furnishings, textiles, construction, and agriculture, which is why industry growth is on the rise.
According to the research report ""Europe Nonwoven Fabric Market Outlook, 2027"" published by Bonafide Research, it is expected to grow, but at a steady pace over the forecast period with a CAGR of 7.11%. By volume, it is expected to reach nearly 3.70 million tonnes by the end of the forecast period in 2027. Germany remains the largest nonwoven fabric consuming country in the European Union, accounting for 18% of the total share. Europe has one of the most potential regions, but due to its deteriorating environment, which has been forcing it to make policies to reduce pollution. This has directly allowed the market to shift to non-woven bags and packaging materials. The segment combining PA, PC, polyester, natural fibres, and biopolymers is expected to grow with a high anticipated CAGR of 11.46% in the forecasted period. However, the polypropylene polymer type dominates the segment with a 57% market share. Spun melt nonwovens dominate the market with nearly 41% market share, but electrostatic spinning and flash-spun technologies are expected to be adopted in forthcoming years.
The production of nonwoven fabrics increased and Multi-layer nonwoven fabrics developed by thermal bonding with polyester, cotton, and viscose and with the binding fibre polypropylene are expected to grow rapidly over the forecast period. Nonwoven fabrics are widely used for the filtration of particles due to their higher air permeability, better filtration performance, and no yarn slippage compared to woven filter media. A majority of nonwoven fabrics are spun bonded and, in general, the mechanically bonded nonwoven fabrics are thicker with larger pore openings than thermal bonded nonwoven fabrics. Other nonwovens based on melt blown, spun bond, and needle felting techniques are used in disposable cartridges, membranes, and for food filtration. The use of fibre blends can also improve filter properties by increasing the filtration depth and creating three-dimensional structures.
When looking at the disposable category, the market has stronger growth with the increase in per capita income. The hygiene segment in terms of application accounted for more than 44.76% of the year 2021. From roof underlayment to house wrap and flashing materials, nonwovens’ role in construction is more often than not one of protector, keeping water out and heat and air conditioning in. The extensive use of non-woven fabrics in the building and construction industry is expected to have an anticipated growth rate of 7.31% through the forecasted period. Several regulations have been enforced for the production of and use of spun-bond nonwoven in various industries in the region. The use of spun-bond nonwovens for food packaging applications is approved but untapped. In addition, the European Council has also approved the use of spun-bond nonwovens in medical and healthcare applications. Such clarity in usage has enabled the market to gain more potential and opened up more niche opportunities for the manufacturers.
