Wanlong and Chongli are two of China's largest ski resorts, both of which are within driving distance of Beijing. Both are well-known among skiers who enjoy long ski seasons. However, due to poor snow conditions in this region, resorts must rely on artificial snow. Dongbei has a lot of snow, but it's too cold for some people, with temperatures in the negative 30 degrees. Service in restaurants and hotels is pretty poor, and many visitors prefer to stay in a nearby village. The nearest airports are hours away, making transportation difficult. Beidahu is a well-known ski resort in Dongbei. For those willing to make the journey, Xinjiang offers the highest quality experience. The area receives a lot of snow, is at a high elevation, and hotels and restaurants are plentiful and of high quality. Xinjiang has more off-trail skiing opportunities than Dongbei or Beijing, making it the most similar to European mountains. The issue is that COVID-19 policies are very far and very strict, including the possibility of 14-day quarantine.
