Driver Monitoring Systems Market By Type of Monitoring (Driver State Monitoring, Driver Health Monitoring), By Component (Cameras, Sensors, Others), By Vehicle Type (Passenger Cars, Light Commercial Vehicles, Heavy Commercial Vehicles), By Vehicle Propulsion (ICE Vehicles, Electric Vehicles), By Sales Channel (OEM, Aftermarket): Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2021-2031
The driver monitoring system (DMS) also referred as driver state sensing (DSS) system is a vehicle safety system that prevents the accidents caused by driver getting drowsy. DMS utilizes two or more cameras which are used to track/monitor the drivers’ eyes and raise an alarm if the attention level of the driver is compromised. It utilizes driver facing camera equipped with infrared light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to “see/detect” the driver’s face even at night and see/detect the driver’s eyes even if the driver is wearing dark sunglasses. Moreover, DMS also detects the driver vigilance by measuring engagement in multi-tasking activities such as eating, drinking, using cellphone and others.
Several companies are focusing on development of driver monitoring system with enhanced sensors, which fuels the growth of the sensors segment. For instance, in 2020, Lucid Motors unveiled its DreamDrive system, which is a sensor suite that advances advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technologies to near-semi autonomous levels. Lucid Motors will equip DreamDrive technology into company’s first pure electric luxury car with combination of a driver monitoring system.
The global driver monitoring system market is experiencing growth due to high demand for safety features, and stringent safety rules and regulations. However, high initial cost & complex structure is the factor hampering the growth of the market. Furthermore, technological advancements are expected to offer growth opportunities during the forecast period.
The driver monitoring system market is segmented on the basis of type of monitoring, component, vehicle type, propulsion, sales channel, and region. By type of monitoring, it is segmented into driver state monitoring, and driver health monitoring. By component, it is fragmented into cameras, sensors, and others.
